This is what the "fourth finger" on the E string looks like. It's a little painful because I have to stretch my pinky finger as much as I can without shifting my other fingers. This is my view when I am playing.
I am a little confused how the violin works. I play guitar, which have frets, but on the violin do you just guess the correct distance to place you fingers??
I love good violin music, glad to hear you like the instrement. Forth finger took me a while to learn my self. Mom came down this week and brought my violin, can't wait to play it.
Check out Lucia Micarelli, joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn and the group Bond. Really good music, you'll like it.
I don't play violin, but I do know that yes, you do kinda "guess" where to put your fingers. You use your ear a lot. The Trombone is basically the same way. We guitarists "cheat" with the frets. lol
Yep, he's right, Nick. But I wouldn't exactly call it "guessing". It's more of listening, and training your fingers to be in the right place at the right time. ...Now I don't really think about it, it's a learned habit.
Thanks for explaining that for me, Jeremy. Also, thanks for the encouragement! :)
It looks like Jordan and Brantley (both who play the violin) both dislike the fourth finger.....just like me! But the more I practice, the easier it gets (that's pretty obvious).
I will look up those violinists (is that a word?) when I get the chance, Brantley. Thanks! Have you played your violin yet, since getting it from your mom?
I want to speek on behalf of my fourth finger. I love my fourth finger! I think it's because I play the guitar and piano and the piano wouldn't be nearly as beautiful without it.
Nick, he's barrowing Nanci's cello. I'll stick to the piano!;)
AHHH! Cello, if I had time to learn a new instrement, I'd be the cello. YoYO Ma is the best. (Great name, don'cha think?)
Yes ma'am, I have been able to play a bit. My housemate, Ben, is quite an accomplished pianist so we play together pretty often. I'm still trying to get it all back, I haven't played in so long!
The cello is a lot bigger and it is played in a totally different position. You might be thinking of the viola which is bigger and has the C, G, D, and A strings instead of the G, D, A, and E strings.
Lol, everyone I asked for advice on the fourth finger said PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE:-) That is defiently the way to go!

I really like the new look. Maybe you can keep this one for a little while. :) :) :) :)
Suggestion: Video yourself playing "Tis so Sweet" among others for your blog. I would enjoy being able to hear you.
Love you,

I dislike playing with the fourth finger....strongly!!!! I've never been able to exactly get it right in tune either:-(
You should get a video of you playing a song. That would be nice to hear you play!

I like the new template, looks good.

Joshua Bell is really good! I saw him play on tv once and it was Amazing. I have a couple of his songs, they are really neat!

By the way..... Keep working on it, you'll get it!
I wouldn't call it cheating... more like doing it the easy way. :)

(What a lengthy comment!)
I just started playing the cello, and I don't really like the fourth finger either...

Sorry for making a conversation between me and Kade, but where did you get a cello? You are learning from Nanci Lea, right? I didn't know you got one.
Nick
That's great! How long have you been playing?
I believe the "fourth finger" is notorious for being obnoxious......yep. lol.

Cello is cool, very pretty. Have any of you heard of the Eden string quartet? They are really good!
-Jeremy
Kole: Me too! I don't think I sould do to good at something with a stick that you rub across the strings. I think I like picks better!
Jeremy: No, I haven't.

Is the only difference between violin and cello, the size? I think the cello is just a little bigger, right?
Brantley, keep making beautiful music for the Lord! I would like to hear you play one day, once more.
Jeremy-
Yes! I have heard the Eden String Quartet, we have the CD! It's so lovely.
Nick-
It's called the bow ;)
How fun! I didn't know you played the violin... or did I? :)
Looks like a lot of fun and very complex. I want to learn the guitar, piano and drums! Yeah... high wants :P
Hope you have been well. Missed hearing from you!
Love,
Amanda

Nick: I don't use a pick. I have better control over the strings without it.
